So i trimmed after I rode. I rode Chapin first. He was so good! Lots of transitions work wonders in training. Trimming just tweaking. His feet are still a work in progress but healthy sole is growing and the underun heels are so much better. Plus he has some good concavity coming too. Taco was Taco. Go, go go! Then trimmed him, he was getting long but healthy hooves! Yesterday I trimmed Corde. I'll have to get him home to ride. At least its cooler now. Highs in the 60s.

I got up this morning and trimmed for a client at 7am. Then got back home and saddled up Chapin. He was great! quiet and well-behaved. I need to do a new video of him but I look so big on him. I need to trim Corde but I have to trim 3 tomorrow so I might wait until next week and Its supposed to rain this weekend. Its still really hot and the horseflies are still bad But I've been riding in the ring. Even though i feed vinegar and garlic, the horseflies are unaffected. FYI I feed whole oats, rice bran, ground flax seed, beet pulp and sunflower seeds. I soak it all so it's easier to digest.

Sari and I rode the Pasos off the farm yesterday evening and Chapin ran around and found something to bang up his leg. I cold-hosed it and put some Tea tree oil ointment on it. Its a tear going right down the front of the cannon bone on his left front. I t was swollen some this morning but I went ahead and rode him, he wasn't lame and the swelling went down afterwards. Thank goodness for good mechanism!

Riding Chapin 08/24/2009

Chapin is doing so well. I've been riding him almost every day and working with him doing natural horsemanship stuff. He's so smart! And perfectly sound on grass and sand and will walk across gravel but I will use boots if I ride him out of the ring.
Taco is doing better too. He still wants to go go go but doing better about being soft and round.

Its so hot! 08/21/2009

It was sooo hot today! Like a steam room. But i got Chapin and rode/trained him in the pasture with the other horses in the pasture by chasing them around in the woods. Taco got a bit western and you couldn't prove it was hot by his antics. It was nice too because it gave Chapin a job to do and even with Taco cutting a rug around him, Chapin had to remain well-behaved.

Funerals 08/20/2009

3 funerals and a wedding....Just got back from my bro-in-law's wife's ex-hubby's funeral. Well, I have taken his daughter, my bro-in-law'ss step-daughter Susan, riding so even though I didn't know him, I was there with Billy and Janelle and sat with Bubba and Judy It was a long service, touching but also a sermon. Last week it was Billy's uncle Skeeter and 3 weeks ago, it was my uncle Bill and before that, was a wedding! I've been in churches more the last few weeks than I have all year! And wow, First Presbyterian, what a church
I did get up this morning early and play with Chapin (he's for sale!) He was such a good boy. I set the jumps up yesterday and he's very quick to learn. One thing I am doing is rewarding him when he jumps cleanly. I don't believe in punishment or force though I'm not completely infallible, I do try to make the right thing easy and the wrong thing difficult.
