Low Heel/Long Toe
This abnormality is caused by shoeing, incorrect trimming, too long intervals between trims, and stall-keeping. The toe grows too long and the heels collapse under the foot.
After 6 months... | This particular case also has what is known as "broken back axis" of the coffin joint, a joint adaptation. I was backing the toes up as indicated by the red line shown on the photo below at the toe. The red oval shows where the heel point is under-run. I will hope to bring the heel back to the blue line.
One of the things you can see is how the tubules are slanted forward. The key to getting the hoof to line up to the ground in the direction of force is to train the tubules to grow in the correct direction. Right front after 6 months |
